Coaches Report Australian Short Course Championships
MLC Aquatic Club had 4 swimmers compete against Australia's best swimmers at this years' Championships, with another two qualifying but unable to compete. Once again this has highlighted the progression the MLC Squad program has made, as at this same championships 12 months ago we had no competitors. I congratulated the 4 swimmers on their performances and especially Mark O'Donnell on his 7th place finish in the 800 freestyle. All swimmers either equaled or bettered their ranking from the start lists of the meet.

Coaches Report January 2008
2008 Victorian State Championships
MLC Aquatic Club had 37 qualifiers for this years Championships and with a combined team effort finished 7th Victorian Club. The 2008 Victorian Championships was held in the Commonwealth Games outdoor pool at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. MLC Aquatic swimmers competed against teams from all over Australia and against international swimmers and teams.
MLC Aquatic finished the two weeks of Open and Age competition with an outstanding medal tally of 5 gold, 1 silver and 9 bronze medals from 66 finals. The advancement the club has made this year can be seen in the fact that in 2007 the club finished 15th and has now moved up 8 places to 7th and has returned to the top 10 after a number of years outside it. All swimmers should be proud of what the club has achieved as it is the competitive and supportive culture that has evolved at training and at competitions that has lead to this result. Without this supportive club culture those making finals would not have performed as well as they have. In particular it was a pleasure to see the club make 13 relay finals including 2 bronze relay medals.
I would like to congratulate all those who competed at these championships. Thank you to the parents for there support of the club and their children. A special thank you to my assistant coach Lauren for her tireless work throughout the year.
